DOES THIS RUIN THANKSGIVING?

Standing-In-Line

A common sight across the country these days on Thanksgiving Day, many Americans feel the new trend of department stores opening their doors for Black Friday Deals on Thanksgiving takes away from the family aspect of the Holiday.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

look at all those non blacks lined up nice and orderly.

  • Lady Anne

I think it’s disturbing. I pity the poor employees, forced to work on a holiday for minimum wage, but who goes out and leaves their families to stand in the cold and save a few bucks?

  • Northerngirl

I’m with you there, Lady Anne.

On Thanksgiving, we should all remember what we have to be grateful for instead indulging in sheer greed! (And yes, we have Black Friday up here in Canada, too, but not to the size and extent as the States).

    This sickens me!

  • Doc

There isn’t a deal good enough to get me to go shopping on thanksgiving or black friday. Not to mention that I never thought shopping should require body armor.

  • Melissa

REALLY??!? Apparently the almighty dollar (and TVs, and toys, and clothes) trumps family (and, surprisingly, food).

It’s convenient to blame the stores for doing this but at the end of the day, it’s the CONSUMER who makes these choices. If NO ONE was in line, if consumers refused to patronize stores on Thanksgiving, the companies wouldn’t do it.

Apparently the people lining up don’t care about their OWN families, least of all the families of the employees who have no choice but to work.

They could be giving away free big screen TV’s and Blow Jobs and I still wouldn’t be in that line. No way.

I spent 12 years in retail, and there is no way I will ever go to a mall in December again.
I dream of a day when I can buy a swimsuit in the summer when I actually need one, and I don’t have to see Halloween decorations in June.
For all those folks in line: my shopping is done. I start in January, and pick up a present of two a month until I am done. That way I really do put some thought into what I give, and am not broke at the first of the year. Also,I get spend time with the people who matter to me, not standing in lines.

I’d rather order online than wait in line if I really had to have something. Family comes first on Thanksgiving.

I writting this from work, I feel this is a family holiday and people shouldn’t have to work unless the absolutely have too. I make good money to be here today but I have too for the publics safety, but sales people, resturant staff and other’s that profide services that arn’t necessary, should be at home with their familes.

  • Jockomo Fin-A-Nay

    Losers. All of them.

  • snake

The third chick from the back of the line has a nice ass. If I could engage her in conversation/get her number, it might make the wait worth it.

  • Oogie

Awww, come on, it gives them something to do. Entertainment.

  • G Spot Finder

Stupid people there can’t possibly be that much money to save. Camping out for days to be first in line? Get a f***ing life.

    3 words…F**K THAT S**T!
    People are insane.
    Businesses are GREEDY!

  • Joe Retailmanager

I work retail and have for over thirty years and absolutely despise this time if year and the trend the industry is taking toward being open on Thursday. I will say the employees are not always making minimum wage as usually businesses are paying time and a half or a shift premium to the employee but that really does not negate the fact that they are having to work on this day. Even this year the trend seems to have been to start the deals even earlier in the week for many companies especially their online sites. What ever happened to the hype of Black Friday???!!! Ten years from now I feel consumers and the public will look back and say this was the year Thanksgiving died for retailers.

  • Nonono

I never shop on Thanksgiving, ever. Nor Black Friday for that matter. I spend my time where it’s important, with family and friends.

  • Hap

I personally have no interest in participating in that kind of shopping. But I think that it’s great for people to have something else to do on Thanksgiving if they want to. In my experience, Thanksgiving is usually one of the most boring days of the year, because there is never much of anything to do, besides maybe going to the cinema. Why does chatting with relatives have to take place only in a residence to “count” as a legitimately heartfelt Thanksgiving pastime?

    Yes
